Work bound, I’m ambushed by needy eyes.
Now, how do I still walk on by?
The fault is mine;
a glance left hanging longer than good sense would apply.
Commence chase. Assume impatient face.
Plead default case: “I’m running late”, “I’ve got no change”.
Furrowed brow; eyes kept squarely to the ground.
Now, can’t escape from persistence.
Would be rude to break into a run.
Got a gun to my head; just wanted to leave instead.

Through my mind run all the other times
I’ve been disinclined to spare some coin,

If I’m being square – I can afford it.
Halt my stride.

even though we both know it’s a small drop in the ocean.
